🐾 Want a Better Recall?

Don’t Make “COME!” the Bad News Word

Picture this:

Your dog is having the BEST time outside.

Sniffing.

Running.

Exploring.

Living their absolute best dog life.

Then you yell: “COME!”

They come running over…

…and immediately get taken inside.

Well.

Your dog just learned something. 😂

“Come” = The fun is over.

Do that often enough and you may start seeing this:

You call.

Your dog looks at you.

Your dog thinks about it.

And then…

Nope.

Here’s an easy way to prevent it:

Sometimes call your dog to you when nothing bad is about to happen.

Call them.

Praise them.

Give them a treat or a little love.

Then say:

“Go play!”

…and let them run right back to what they were doing.

Why this works

Now coming to you doesn’t always mean:

❌ Playtime ends
❌ The leash goes on
❌ It’s time to leave
❌ Something fun disappears

Sometimes it simply means:

“Checking in with my human pays off.”

That is exactly the habit we want.

🐶 Try this today:

While your dog is outside enjoying themselves, call them to you 3–5 times.

Reward them.

Then release them right back to play.

Don’t wait until it’s actually time to go inside.

Look at you collecting dog-training tips from a wrong phone call. 😂

At this point, we might as well keep going.
