🐾 Your Dog Heard You the First Time
"Sit. Sit. Sit. Siiiiit.”
Sound familiar? 😂
Here’s a simple training habit that can make a surprisingly big difference:
Say the command once.
Dogs are incredibly good at learning patterns.
If the normal routine is:
“Sit… sit… sit… SIT!”
your dog may learn that “sit” doesn’t really mean sit until the fourth time you say it.
That isn’t stubbornness.
That’s training.
Unfortunately, we accidentally did the training. 😬
Try this instead:
Give your dog a command they already understand.
Say it once.
Then give them a moment to process what you asked.
If they do it: 🎉 Praise them immediately.
If they don’t: Instead of repeating the word five more times, calmly help them follow through or reset and try again.
Why it matters
We want our dogs to learn: The first cue matters.
Not because we need robot dogs.
But because someday that cue might be:
“Come.”
“Leave it.”
“Stay.”
And those are commands we really don’t want to say four times.

Pick ONE command your dog knows and spend the day practicing saying it only once.
You might catch yourself repeating commands more often than you realized.
